Before a retirement plan buys property

9 min readRoth Academy field notes

Property brings contracts, expenses, ownership details, and ongoing records together. Preparing those facts early helps the appropriate professionals evaluate the proposed transaction.

Tim Berry discusses IRAs in this video. Review your actual plan and account terms separately.

01

Map the entire transaction

Identify the buyer, seller, related parties, proposed use, financing, and people providing services. The relationship between parties and the intended use deserve attention before a commitment is made.

02

Prepare the cash and documents

Gather the proposed contract, projected costs, funding information, and account details. Ask how title, signatures, expenses, and records should be handled for the actual arrangement.

03

Plan ongoing administration

Ownership continues after closing. Prepare for income, expenses, valuation records, and eventual sale or distribution. Obtain advice about transaction restrictions and potential taxes where relevant.
